Roseland Community Initiative Honored with 25th Annual Premier Cares Award

The Roseland Community Initiative was launched by Mobile Care Chicago in 2013 in partnership with local schools and Roseland Community Hospital. The Initiative has three components:

  1. Asthma educators stationed within the hospital’s emergency department, as well as local schools, educate families on children’s respiratory issues and how to best manage them;
  2. Asthma Vans provide no-cost, ongoing, comprehensive medical care to effectively manage asthma and severe allergies. This shifts patients away from reliance on emergency medicine by ensuring that they have the routine care that they need; and
  3. Home inspections identify asthma triggers in the home and help families eliminate them.

This three-pronged approach has resulted in over 80% reduction in pediatric emergency department utilization for asthma. In addition, it has dramatically reduced hospitalizations and school absenteeism.

To date, Mobile Care Chicago has received three awards for the Roseland Community Initiative, underscoring just how impactful mobile medical clinics can be.

This program has been made possible by the generous support of Mobile Care’s donors and the following organizations:

  • Illinois Department of Public Health, Title V Grant
  • American Lung Association in Greater Chicago
  • Field Foundation of Illinois
  • University of Illinois at Chicago
  • The Crown Family
  • Lloyd A. Fry Foundation
  • Albert Pick, Jr. Fund
