Advanced Practice Nurse

Mobile C.A.R.E. Foundation is interested in hiring an energetic and passionate Advanced Practice Nurse to oversee one of the organization’s two Asthma Vans!  These Vans travel into low-income communities and provide no-cost care, education, and diagnosis to children with the chronic disease asthma. Through two Asthma Vans, MCF currently provides care to 1,100 patients through 3,300 patient visits yearly.

About the Job
Under the direction of the Lead Nurse Practitioner and a Collaborating Physician, the Advanced Practice Nurse will supervise all mobile clinic operations and staff, provision of direct patient care, family education sessions, and communication with external stakeholders aboard one of the two Asthma Vans.

This position focuses on pediatric asthma care, so pediatric experience is required; specialized training in respiratory care and asthma management will be provided. The Asthma Van travels to all areas of the city, with an emphasis on low-income areas which may not be easily accessible via public transit.

Asthma Van clinics are 8 hours per day Monday through Friday, and there are occasional evening meetings and/or weekend hours required.

Essential Functions
Ensure detailed patient history
Perform physical examination related to lung health
Provide detailed, individualized patient and family asthma education sessions
Instruct patients and families on medication and spacer utilization
Interpret spirometry results
Diagnose and treat co-morbid illnesses
Interpret allergy skin tests

Position Requirements
Advanced Practice nursing degree in Peds or FP; prior allergy experience a plus
Cultural sensitivity
Understanding of comprehensive care
Excellent communication skills
Reliable transportation
Proficiency in both Spanish and English preferred, but not required
Above all, a passion for bettering the lives of low-income children
