Asthma Van Medical Assistant
About the Organization
Currently in its 16th year of service, Mobile Care Chicago is a non-profit organization which operates mobile medical clinics called Asthma Vans. These Vans travel into low-income communities and provide no-cost care, education, and diagnosis to children with the chronic disease asthma. Through two Asthma Vans, Mobile Care currently provides care to 1,100 patients through 3,300 patient visits yearly.
About the Position
The Asthma Van Medical Assistant is available to assist the provider on a range of issues surrounding clinic flow, asthma education, patient interviews, medication technique, immunizations and child physicals. This position:
Obtains detailed patient history
Provides patient and family asthma education
Instructs patients and families on medication and spacer utilization
Performs allergy skin tests
Communicates with families, physicians, school personnel and community agencies
Refers to community agencies, when appropriate
Assesses needs of mobile clinic, including supplies
Provides case management and support
Handles medication inventory and expensing
Administer vaccines and assist with student physicals
Perform spirometry when necessary
Other duties as necessary
Position requirements
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
Fluency in Spanish
Excellent computer competency
Good sense of humor, and high sense of responsibility
Commercial Drivers License a strong plus
Most importantly, a passion for helping others
