Asthma Van Program Intern

About the Organization
Currently in its 15th year of service, Mobile C.A.R.E. Foundation (MCF) is a non-profit organization which operates mobile medical clinics called Asthma Vans. These Vans travel into low-income communities and provide no-cost care, education, and diagnosis to children with the chronic disease asthma. Through two Asthma Vans, MCF currently provides care to 1,100 patients through 3,300 patient visits yearly.

About the Position
The Asthma Van Intern will have an opportunity to assist in all aspect of the mobile clinic experience from patient management and follow-up to real-time interpreting and enhancement of the Asthma Van experience. The ideal candidate for this position will desire to see first-hand the operations of a mobile medical clinic, and will have a strong passion for helping communities where medical resources are often unavailable.

Major Position Responsibilities
Manage a brief of over 100 families, ensuring they have regular clinic appointments and an excellent clinic experience
Serve as interpreter for families who are native Spanish speakers
Assist in general program administration, including outcome tracking
Serve as assistant to the Asthma Van medical providers
Facilitate asthma education sessions along with a registered nurse

Qualifications
Excellent written and spoken communication skills in both English and Spanish
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment
Very good logistical thinking
Friendliness and a good sense of humor
Knowledge of asthma a plus
Most importantly, a commitment to social justice
