On Saturday, October 19th, our very own Community Health Worker and Food Allergy Educator, Victoria “Vicky” Enciso, received an award for her outstanding community work. The award, which was presented by the Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) organization, recognizes Vicky’s outreach and community educating efforts. Through FARE-wide voting, Vicky won 70% of the votes to receive this year’s Denise Bunning Community Leadership Award! This award honors outstanding leadership and service in the food allergy community, and with Vicky’s exemplary contributions she is truly deserving.
Anita Roach, Vice President of Health Equity and Community Engagement, expressed that “Vicky has significantly impacted our FARE Neighborhood Initiative efforts in Ward 15 and surrounding communities. She also shares great insights and support to our other community health workers across the country. It was an honor to nominate Vicky. Vicky’s dedication to advancing equity in food allergy awareness and access, mentorship, and inclusion is truly commendable. I’m thrilled about this recognition of her hard work”.
FARE has the mission to improve the quality of life and health of those with food allergy through transformative research, education, and advocacy. During their annual FARE Summit they focus on hosting workshops that educate young people on food allergies, and careers in the health sector.
MCC and FARE have been working together for years now, identifying allergy needs within the community and helping educate families in an effort to curb unwarranted allergic reactions and support kids’ health. With this strategic crossover, MCC and FARE have been innovators in the food allergy education sector and have proudly helped many families avoid unwanted ER visits.
Congratulations Vicky! Way to go!
